JazzWerkstatt Wien

we were very happy to receive the Fair Music Award!
From the very beginning we wanted our music to be heard by as many people as possible. Our intention was to not play and experiment in front of a specialist audience and other fellow musicians, but to create an own infrastructure, a "JazzWerkstatt" [in English: jazz workshop] that also attracts a genre-untypical audience.
The JazzWerkstatt Vienna is a musical collective, which has facilitated a number of projects, ensembles, compositions, and CDs since its founding in 2004. Working collectively inspires us and we see it as our potential. At the moment, the JazzWerkstatt Vienna is linked with other like-minded artists' collectives at European level within the project "ZOOM!".
A large part of our work is on a voluntary basis and it is often difficult in our genre, for which there is no lobbying in cultural policy, to gain enough money to fund a professional implementation of our ideas.
Perhaps the Fair Music Initiative will succeed in a more even distribution, so that in the future the recognition award in the form of a certificate will be accompanied by financial support.
Clemens Wenger works as musician and composer.
