We hope the fair music award will be able to raise a loud dissenting voice and contribute to keeping the doors to the world open.
We received the fair music award 2007 for Tonga.Online and the long-time cultural exchange on fair equal terms with the people and the music of the Tonga in Southern Africa. Since the parade at Linz2009, we have increasingly been moving the East African region into the public eye.
The exchange of Windhund-culture from Vienna and the monsoon culture of the Indian Ocean has proved to be very fruitful, since both share open mindedness, mutual enrichment and fusion of varied cultural currents, positions and influences.
However, the biggest challenge for the project was the very limited budget due to the reluctance of individual funding bodies, which were previously more generous and willing to support similar projects. This reluctance seems to correspond with the increasing Eurocentrism and the foreclosure of "foreign" non-European cultures in the public perception, rather than opposing to this. This increasingly questions the future of such projects with international cultural exchange.
We hope the fair music award will be able to raise a loud dissenting voice and contribute to keeping the doors to the world open.
